^Lot 1674 Ames US Mounted Artillery Sword

U.S. Civil War M1840 US Artillery Sword. Dated 1864. Manufactured by Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. The sword features a curved blade measuring approximately 32". The ricasso is crisply marked “U.S. / D.E.W. / 1864”, denoting government inspection. The Ames stampings are mostly gone but enough to confirm it is Ames. The blade shows honest signs of period use, with nicks along the lower edge, finish is a mixture of blue/gray. the brass, pommel have a nice mellow patina, the handle has a 1" crack on the right side, wire is intact. No scabbard.
